A Blue John and Labradorite double-sided reversible pendant featuring an ornate Blue John stone on one side and a fiery Labradorite stone on the other side. Made in our Sheffield workshop by designer Andrew Thomson, the hand cut 25mm stones are set in English hallmarked Sterling Silver.
Blue John (also known as Derbyshire Spar) is a semi-precious mineral, a form of fluorite with bands of a purple-blue or yellowish colour. In the UK it is found only at Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern at Castleton in Derbyshire. During the 19th century, it was mined for its ornamental value, and mining continues on a small scale.
Labradorite displays a mix of colours from blues and greens to yellows and even purple. Its unusual crystal formations reflect light in an iridescent play of colours which gave rise to the term labradorescence.
