A double sided Blue John and Ammonite Fossil pendant which can be worn on either side, so you get two beautiful pendants in one. Made by us in Sheffield and set in hallmarked 925 silver.

The length of the pendant is 45mm and the stones are 30mm. It has a V-shaped clasp suitable for most necklaces or a string of pearls.

As all stones are created naturally, each one is unique and may therefore vary from the image. However we guarantee they are of the highest quality and handpicked specifically for each design.

Now a little bit about the stones…

Ammonites were predatory mollusks that resembled a squid with a shell. These cephalopods had eyes, tentacles, and spiral shells. They are more closely related to a living octopus, though the shells resemble that of a nautilus. Ammonites appeared in the fossil record about 240 million years ago and they barely survived several major extinction events. The last lineages disappeared 65 million years ago at the end of the Cretaceous.

Blue John (also known as Derbyshire Spar) is a semi-precious mineral, a form of fluorite with bands of a purple-blue or yellowish colour. In the UK it is found only at Blue John Cavern and Treak Cliff Cavern at Castleton in Derbyshire.

During the 19th century, it was mined for its ornamental value, and mining continues on a small scale. Deposits of fluorite have been recently found in China with colouring and banding similar to the classic Blue John stone.
